Three Valleys & Atlas Mountains Day Trip
A 9-hour day in the High Atlas from Marrakech: Ourika Valley, an Amazigh village and argan cooperative, Imlil or Asni and Ouirgane, with a local driver-guide and lunch stop.
An 8-hour day at Lalla Takerkoust lake, 40 minutes from Marrakech: Atlas foothill villages, a lakeside lunch, time to swim or kayak, and Agafay desert views on the way back.

This is an easy 8-hour day trip to Lalla Takerkoust, a reservoir lake about 40 minutes south-west of Marrakech with the snow-capped Atlas behind it. You visit a foothill village, have a long lakeside lunch, and spend free time swimming, kayaking or simply resting before returning via the Agafay stone desert.
Not every excursion needs a long drive. Lalla Takerkoust is the lake where Marrakchi families go on weekends to escape the heat, and it is a good choice if you have already done the big trips, if you are travelling with children, or if you simply want a day without monuments. The lake was created by a dam built in the 1930s; the water level changes with the seasons, and after wet winters it is full and very blue against the mountains.
Your driver-guide stays with you the whole day and can arrange quad, horse or camel rides at the lake if you want more activity (paid on site).
April to October is swimming season; in July and August the water is warm and the lake is at its most lively, especially on Sundays. From November to March the lake is quiet and the Atlas peaks are often white, which is lovely for photos and lunch in the sun but too cold for swimming.
