This is a 2-hour hammam and spa session at a clean, well-run spa in Marrakech that we have used with our guests for years. It includes steam, black soap, a full kessa scrub, a rhassoul clay wrap, a 30-minute argan oil massage and mint tea, with transport from your hotel.

What a Moroccan hammam actually is

For Moroccans, the hammam is a weekly habit, not a luxury. Neighbourhood hammams are warm, busy, tiled rooms where families wash, scrub and talk. The spa version you get on this experience follows the same steps but in a private, quieter setting, with an attendant doing the work for you. It is a good way to recover after a long day in the souks or a desert trip, and it is often the thing our guests say they wish they had done earlier in their stay.

The steps of your session

  • Steam room (about 15 minutes) to open the pores and relax the muscles.
  • Beldi black soap, made from olive oil paste, applied all over and left to work.
  • Kessa scrub with a rough glove. Your attendant scrubs firmly and you will see the dead skin come away; tell them if you prefer it gentler.
  • Rhassoul clay from the Middle Atlas as a body and hair mask, then a rinse.
  • 30-minute massage with Moroccan argan oil in a separate room.
  • Relaxation area with mint tea and Moroccan pastries.

What to wear and bring

The spa provides disposable underwear, a robe, towels and slippers. Most people wear the disposable underwear or their own swimwear bottoms. Attendants are women for women; couples can book a shared room for the massage. You do not need to bring anything except a change of clothes if you plan to go out afterwards.

Who it suits

The session suits almost everyone. It is not recommended during pregnancy, with recent sunburn, or with skin conditions, and people with heart or blood pressure concerns should check with a doctor before using the steam room. We can arrange a gentler version with a shorter steam if you prefer.

Practical tips from our team

  • The best time is late afternoon, after sightseeing and before dinner. Slots run from 10:00 to 20:00.
  • Avoid booking it right before a long drive; you will feel pleasantly sleepy.
  • Do not shave or wax the day of the scrub.
  • Staff tips of 20–50 MAD are appreciated but never expected.

If you are wondering what to pack for the season, our what to wear in Marrakech guide covers it. To fit the hammam into a busy day, see our hour-by-hour Marrakech plan. Book or ask a question on WhatsApp at +212 606-957514.

Questions about this tour

Do I need to bring anything to the hammam?

No. Robe, towels, slippers and disposable underwear are provided. Bring swimwear bottoms if you prefer, and a change of clothes if you are going out afterwards.

Can couples do the hammam together?

Yes. Couples can book a shared room for the scrub and massage. Tell us when booking so the spa prepares a double room.

Is the kessa scrub painful?

It is firm but should not hurt. Just tell your attendant if you want it gentler; they adjust the pressure straight away.
